ABOUT

Beautiful Places. Haunting Tales.

At Rural Haunts, our mission is to create a communal space where the captivating narratives of the paranormal come to life. We invite individuals to share their personal encounters with the supernatural, creating a collective tapestry of experiences that span the rural West. Beyond individual accounts, we also aim to preserve the rich tapestry of stories handed down through generations, ensuring that the spectral folklore of the region is not lost to time. By providing a platform for the sharing and exploration of these tales, Rural Haunts becomes a virtual campfire where the warmth of personal encounters and ancestral legends can be shared, celebrated, and cherished. Join us in fostering a community that embraces the mysterious and honors the age-old tradition of passing down tales that defy explanation.

Embracing a sense of enigma about my identity, I've spent the past 28 years immersed in the captivating tapestry of the Gunnison Valley. Introduced to this picturesque haven at the age of ten, courtesy of a fortuitous appliance purchase by my parents, our entry into a drawing led to a memorable three-night stay at what is now the Elevation Hotel, coupled with lift tickets to Crested Butte Mountain Resort. Thus began a profound connection between my family and this valley.

Following that serendipitous introduction, my father returned the following fall for big game hunting, and our family ritualized summer road trips from southern Florida to Gunnison in our trusty Toyota van. Despite the passing of my father during my high school years, the legacy endured as my mother assumed a volunteer role with the US Forest Service, spending two decades as a campground host in various locations within Taylor Canyon.

My own journey brought me to Colorado in 1996 to pursue studies at Western State (now Western Colorado University), where I delved into English and education. Fate smiled upon me, leading to an encounter with the love of my life at Western. Together, we've nurtured a family, raising two daughters in this idyllic valley.

While this brief glimpse into my background might offer hints about who I am, my intent for this project is to spotlight the captivating stories within the Gunnison Valley, not my personal narrative. I invite you to contribute your tales, whether firsthand or passed down through generations. Regardless of how these narratives reached you, I express my gratitude in advance for sharing them, as they weave the rich tapestry of our shared past.
